Gidgee forest (Acacia cambagei)

Gidgee forest (Acacia cambagei). Gidgee replaces Brigalow (Acacia harpophylla) as rainfall falls below 550 mm per year and lies in a belt west of the Brigalow belt, forming part of the extensive acacia-dominated forest woodland shrublands of inland Australia. Like Brigalow, it has been cleared over large areas for pastoral and agricultural development, particularly in the east of its range, but has suffered less than Brigalow since it occupies semi-arid lands further inland which is only suitable for rangeland grazing. Visitor on the Perry Sand Hills formed after an ice age 40 thousand years ago

Visitor on the Perry Sand Hills formed after an ice age 40 thousand years ago and now forming a landscape spread over 333 ha that is continually changed by the wind. It has featured in numbers of films, TV shows and advertisements. The Wentworth Pioneer Museum has on display the remains of megafauna found here: kangaroos, lions, emus and wombats.
