Reindeer (Rangifer tarandus)

Reindeer (Rangifer tarandus), juvenile, grazing. Reindeer were introduced to South Georgia in 1909; their spread and the damage they do to native flora and fauna has been limited by glaciers that form natural barriers but the glaciers are receding. St Andrews Bay, South Georgia, Antarctica

Night sky on the Brittany coast at the Equinox at forty minutes

Night sky on the Brittany coast at the Equinox at forty minutes past midnight. Night falls very late on June 21 and the sky is still somewhat blue, at least where there is no light pollution. The Milky Way beginning to be visible to the left of the Penmarc lighthouse (emitting light) extends to the right above the Eckmuehl Light. At far right, Mars is left of Spica (Virgo). Saturn is high to the right of the semaphore, and just above the building antenna, Antares (Scorpius). Altair (Aquila) is vertically above Eckmuehl. Finistere, Brittany, France
