Dunkleosteus, the largest, dark grey fish, measured up to 10 m. The Stethacanthus shark had an anvil-shaped dorsal fin, and Cladoselache at upper right was another shark, sleek and swift, resembling the present-day mackerel sharks

Wandering sea anemone (Phlyctenactis tuberculosa)

Wandering sea anemone (Phlyctenactis tuberculosa), on blades of giant kelp (Macrocystis pyrifera). Has numerous bladder-like vesicles on bulging column. In daytime it curls up and looks like a ball of baked beans. It attaches itself to weed, seagrasses and rock but can detach itself and is often seen drifting on the sea floor. Tasmania, Australia

Great barracude (Sphyraena barracuda), showing the long, uneven, teeth and underslung jaw that allows it to feed on very large fish by chomping them in half. Can reach 1.8 m but is usually about 1.4 m long. A vicious fish, will attack divers and can inflict severe wounds but generally not without provocation. Also kills more than it can eat.
